Plug (-4y) in for x in the top equation. The equation will now read 2(-4y) + 7y = 3. Distribute the 2 into the perenthecies getting: -8y+7y=3. -8+7 is -1 giving -y+3. Divide by -1 making y = -3. Plug -3 back into the top equation and solve for x: 2x + 7(-3)=3. 2x-21=3. 2x=24. x=12.
