We can add the two possibilities of "success" {what we want to happen/what we are studying the likelihood of--in this case, technically rejection is the success, but that is very confusing}

12 + 28 = 40%

(40% of candidates are not rejected)

so, by finding 40% of 75, we can find how many candidates are likely to be accepted

[or, by finding 60% of 75, we can find how many will be rejected]

75 × 0.40 = 30 (30 candidates are not rejected)

75 - 30 = 45 (45 candidates are rejected)

{75 × 0.60 = 45 also}
