Answer:

\boxed{x = 4~~and~~y = -2}

Explanation:

3x + 5y = 2 (times 5) 15x + 25y = 10

5x + 8y = 4 (times 3) 15x + 24y = 12

.

15x + 25y = 10

15x + 24y = 12

y = -2

.

Substitute the value of y to one of equations

3x + 5y = 2

3x + 5(-2) = 2

3x - 10 = 2

3x = 2 + 10

3x = 12

x = (12)/(3)

x = 4
