An atom gains two electrons. What is the overall charge now?

When atom A gains two electrons it forms an anion by developing 2 negative charges over it as there are 2 electrons more than the number of protons in the ion.

When these atoms gain electrons, they acquire a negative charge because they now possess more electrons than protons. Negatively charged ions are called anions. I hope this helps
