Answer: Trial B is
1(3)/(4) miles longer then Trail A.

Explanation:

Length of Trail A =
6\frac34 miles

=
(24+3)/(4) miles =
(27)/(4) miles.

Length of Trail B =
8\frac12 miles

=
(16+1)/(2) miles =
(17)/(2) miles.

Trial B is longer then Trail A by
(17)/(2)-(27)/(4) miles

=(17*2)/(2*2)-(27)/(4) miles

=(34)/(4)-(27)/(4) miles

=(7)/(4) miles

=1(3)/(4) miles

Hence, Trial B is
1(3)/(4) miles longer then Trail A.
