Given:

The equation that represents the relation between degrees Fahrenheit, F, and degrees Celsius, C.

F=(9)/(5)C+32

To find:

Whether it is a proportional relationship or not.

Solution:

If y is proportional to x, then

y\propto x

y=kx

where, k is constant of proportionality.

It means, the proportional relationship is in the form of
y=kx and (0,0) satisfy it.

We have,

F=(9)/(5)C+32

Put C=0 and F=0.

0=(9)/(5)(0)+32

0=0+32

0=32

This statement is not true because
0\\eq 32.

Since, (0,0) did not satisfy the equation
F=(9)/(5)C+32, therefore, the given equation is not a proportional relationship.
