the articles of confederation had set up confederation that was a loose collection of sovereign states, this was a weak government that had no money because they could not tax, they had to rely on state militias to fight, and there was no executive branch to carry out laws. There was also issue between states with trading and slavery. the America had no power under the articles of confederation. the US constitution established a strong centralized government that could protect its people. this set up a federal democratic republic. America could now have a federal tax, a central military, it can more efficiently settle issues between states, and it protects states rights and the people’s rights.
