Distillation is defined as the separation technique used for separating liquids or mixture with different boiling ponts.

From the above definition, one could infer that mixture of liquids of different boiling points can be separated using distillation. That is a homogeneous mixture which has content of different boiling points. A good example of such is water and ethanol. In the cause of boiling this mixture, the ethanol goes out first because it is more volatile, hence it has a lower boiling point compared to water ( 78°C and 100°C)
