Answer: depends on when you leave your location and arrive in Hong Kong. For instance, last year, when I flew over, I left Toronto in the morning, and arrived in Hong Kong in the afternoon (obviously the next day), but because the time wasn't so much different (unlike leaving at day, arriving at night), I was reasonably able to get up the next morning and walk around. If you can manage to get on a flight that leaves at night and arrives in the morning (if you can sleep on a plane), or leave in the morning, get there in the afternoon, you're more likely to be able to beat it.

However, obviously it depends on your physical condition and your age. You might have to write off the first day after. Kids and younger adults have an easier time adapting.

As for queue jumping, it depends on the location. If it's rush hour on the MTR (the subway), but otherwise, it was rare (only saw it a couple times in the four months I was there last). Manners again go out the door during work hours, but during weekends, I found it more pleasant than in Toronto. (but that's just me).

Hope that helps.
