Does the point (-3,-1) lie on the line with the equation y = 10 - 3x ? Be sure to show your work.

Replace x in the equation with the x value from the point and solve. If the equation equals the y value from the point the point lies in the line, if it doesn’t equal the y value then it doesn’t lie on the line.

Y = 10 -3(-3) = 10 + 9 = 19

19 doesn’t equal -1 so the point does not lie on the line.
