A car travels 308 miles in the same time that a motorcycle travels 268 miles. If the​ car's speed is 10 miles per hour more than the​ motorcycle's, find the speed of the car and the speed of the motorcycle.

Answer:

Speed of motorcycle = 67 mph

Speed of car = 77 mph

Given:

Distance travelled by car = 308 miles

Distance travelled by motorcycle = 268 miles

Solution:

Let,

speed of motorcycle = s

therefore, speed of car = (s + 10)

As we know,

Time = Distance/ Speed

308 / (s+10) = 268 / s

308s = 268s + 2680

40s = 2680

s = 67 mph

hence, speed of car = s+10 = 67+10 = 77mph
