Answer: You have to add 14 to both sides of the equation.

5x-14=x-5

5x-14+=x-5+14

Simplify.

Add the numbers.

5x=x+9

Subtract x from both sides of the equation.

5x=x+9

5x-x=x+9-x

Simplify again.

4x=9

Divide both sides of the equation by the same term.

4x=9

4x/4= 9/4

The answer is 9/4. (A fraction)
