First, subtract 2 from both sides to get 7/x alone. Then muliply both sides by x to get rid of 7/x's denominator. Divide both sides by -14 to get rid of x's coefficient and to get x alone. You will then get -1/2 as your answer.

2 + 7/x = -12

-2 -2

7/x = -14

*x *x

7 = -14x

÷-14 ÷-14

- 1/2 =x

x = -1/2
