Explanation:

Step one:

given data

let the shirts be x

and the pants be y

Required

the number of shirts and pants

the systems of the equation for the situation is

2x+6y=11-------------1

5x+8y=18.75-------2

2x+6y=11-------------1X 5

5x+8y=18.75-------2 X2

10x+30y=55-------------1

-10x+16y=37.5-------2

0x+14y=-17.5

divide both sides by 14

y=17.5/14

y=1.25

pants= $1.25

put y=2.32 in eqn 1 2x+6y=11

2x+6(1.25)=11

2x+7.5=11

2x=11-7.5

2x=3.5

x=3.5/2

x=$1.75

Shirts = $1.75
