In simple terms, what does the seventh amendment protect us from?

The Seventh Amendment to the United States Constitution is basically says that civil cases have the right to be decided by jury in a federal court.

Just in case you didn't know, a civil case is a lawsuit based on disagreements among business and or people; the lawsuit must also be over $20 in value.
