the answer is 6

6(x-2)+2x=36
first distribute
6x-12+2x=36
combine like terms
8x-12=36
add 12 on both sides of the equation to isolate the variable
8x=48
divide by 8 to isolate the variable
x=6

check you work
6(6-2)+2(6)=36
36-12+12=36
36=36
