y = - 3x + 4

Add sides 3x

y + 3x = 3x - 3x + 4

3x + y = 4

_________________________________

1) \: 3x + y = 4

2) \: - 4x + y = - 10

Multiply sides of the (( equation 2 )) by - 1

1) \: 3x + y = 4

2) \: 4x - y = 10

Add up equations

3x + 4x + y - y = 4 + 10

7x = 14

Divide sides by 7

(7x)/(7) = (14)/(7) \\

x = 2

Put the value of x in one of the (1) or (2) equations to find the value of y .

I put it in equation 1 :

3x + y = 4

3(2) + y = 4

6 + y = 4

y + 6 = 4

Subtract sides 6

y + 6 - 6 = 4 - 6

y = - 2

And we're done...
