A rectangle's one side is 7 inches shorter than four times it's other side. The perimeter is 180 inches. What are the sides? Please explain with steps and if your can tell me why I keep getting 19.4.

we call one side x and the other side 4x-7. Because in a rectangle opposite sides are equal we can now set up an equation.

x + x + 4x-7 +4x-7 = 180

10x - 14 = 180

10x = 194

x = 19.4

the lenght of the other side is 4(19.4)-7 = 70.6
