-The concrete sections of a highway are designed to be 25 m long. Sections are prepared at 10°C. What is the minimum space that must be left between such sections, to avoid sagging, knowing that the asphalt reaches 50ºC?

Data: α=12 10-6 ºC-1

Let d = distance between two plates, L = length of a plate, and assuming that the coefficient provided is that of linear expansion, the elongation of a section is ∆L = Lα (T₂ - T₁) = 0, 012 m . Assuming that the elongation is shared equally to both sides of each section, when two sections are in contact, it is fulfilled

\pmb{(d)/(2)=(\Delta L)/(2 )\Rightarrow d=\Delta L=0,012 m= 1,2 cm} \\\\\\\boxed{\pmb{d=1,2 \ cm}}
