Find the value of x or y so that the line through the points has given the slope.

13) (-7,-6) and (-4, y); slope
14) (-4,-7) and (x, 3); slope 2
15) (3, 4) and (x, -1); slope: undefined
16) (x, 8) and (-6, -2); slope: undefined

Explanation:

13 - the slope is not specified. sorry, no answer possible.

14)

the slope is the ratio "y coordinate change / x coordinate change".

so,

(3 - -7) / (x - -4) = 2

10 / (x + 4) = 2

5 /(x + 4) = 1

5 = x + 4

x = 1

therefore, the point is (1, 3)

15)

undefined slope means that the ratio is the result of a division by 0.

that means the x coordinate change is 0.

and that means that the missing x coordinate must be exactly the same as the x coordinate of the other point (difference = 0).

so, the point is (3, -1).

16)

the same as in 15).

and the point is (-6, 8).
