and twice a number is 2x (If you let x be the "number")

increase means adding by

increase by 1 is adding by 1

Is means =

=-11

now that we have all the things we add it up

Wice a number increased by 1 is -11:

2x+1=-11

Now you move the 1 to the other side by subtracting by 1 on both sides:

2x+1-1=-11-1

Simplify:

2x=-12

divide both sides by 2:

x=-6
