Cody was given two points (z

8) and
(5,5)
, on a line and asked to create a linear equation in standard
form. Cody's work is shown. Identify any errors and correct them.

Answer:

Explanation:

First error is:
(-3)/((1)/(6) ) = - 3 ÷
(1)/(6) = - 18 ( and ≠
-(1)/(2) )

Thus, slope m = - 18 and linear equation is

y - 5 = - 18(x -
(2)/(3) )

y - 5 = - 18x + 12

y = - 18x + 17 slope intercept form

18x + y = 17 Standard form

First error is:
(-3)/((1)/(6) ) = - 3 (
(1)/(6) ) =
-(1)/(2)

Second error is: Cody should multiply both sides of equation by 6

Standard form is 18x + y = 17
