Pedro and John are going on a field trip with school. Together the boys have $62 to spend on the trip. If Pedro has $15 more than John, how much money does John have? Write a function rule (equation) that represents the situation.

so that y=x+15

Step two:

The equation to represent the situation is

62=x+(x+15)

open the bracket and solve for x we have

62=x+x+15

x=47/2

x=23.5
