Gun ownership. To what extent might a believer of God defend himself against the physical threat to himself for his loved ones in this would today? Does it reconcile the commandments of God of prohibition of killings?​

A believer of God is allowed to defend himself and his loved ones by any means necessary because this is self defence and it is not looked down on in the Bible.

The Bible prohibits killing, this is true. Further reading however would show that the Bible prohibits killing without cause i.e, murder. If it is done in self-defence however, there are a host of Bible passages that support this.

Exodus 22:2-3 for instance states that there will be no guilt on a person who kills a thief if it was done whilst the thief was in the act. Proverbs 25:26 also infers that one should defend themselves by saying that the righteous should not give way for the wicked.

Coupled with all the times the Israelites went to war to defend themselves I believe this shows that while murder is prohibited (quite strongly), self-defence is not.
