Write the equation of the line that is perpendicular to y = -2x + 4 and goes through the point (6, 5). Show all work for credit.

Answer:

y = 1/2x + 2

Explanation:

The slope of a perpendicular line is the opposite reciprocal of the original line.

-2 -> 1/2

Find the new y-intercept with the point we are given (6, 5).

y = 1/2x + b

5 = 1/2(6) + b

5 = 3 + b

2 = b

Fill in everything we solved for back into the orignal formula.

y = 1/2x + 2
