Answer: Axis of symmetry is -2

vertex is (-2,1)

Explanation:

Axis of symmetry is X=Negative b/2a

You need to find out the a, b, & c

a=1 (because when there is no number in front of x, it equals 1). b=4 and c=5

Place the a,b,&c into the formula x=-b/2a which is x= -4/2(1)

In the numerator, negative four is alone so it'll just be negative four.

in the denominator, 2*1 equals 2

Now you have -4/2 which is -2.

So the axis of symmetry is -2

To find the vertex you can simply put 1x^2+4x+5 into a graphing calculator. (I use desmos)

The vertex is the highest or lowest point of a parabola.

in this case, the parabola is a minimum

The vertex is (-2,1)

Hope this helped!
