Answer: Darry is the oldest of his brothers, and raises ponyboy, because their parents have passed away, and he had dropped out of school to help work along with sodapop, to hold them together. He is smart, itellegent, and I would say misunderstood. He is a figure for ponyboy, for all his strength, effort, and authority.
