A group of people were asked if they had run a red light in the last year. 469 responded "yes", and 484 responded "no".

Find the probability that if a person is chosen at random, they have run a red light in the last year.

First, you want to know the total number of people surveyed, so you add the “yes” and “no” group together. That will be 953.

To find the percent, or probability, of people that said yes, you take that number and divide it by the total. So 469/953. And then multiply that number by 100 and you’ll get 49.2%. So there’s a 49.2% chance that person would have run a red light.
