A phone company offers two monthly charge plans. In Plan A, the customer pays a monthly fee of $20 and then an additional 6 cents per minute of use. In Plan B, the customer pays a monthly fee of $31.50 and then an additional 4 cents per minute of use. For what amounts of monthly phone use will Plan A cost less than Plan B? Use m for the number of minutes of phone use, and solve your inequality for m.

Answer:

m>575

Explanation:

let the total cost be y

and the number of minutes be m

Plan A

$20 and additional 6cent

6cent to dollar =$0.06

the linear expression is given as

y=20+0.06m---------1

Plan B

$31.5 and additional 4cent

6cent to dollar =$0.04

the linear expression is given as

y=31.5+0.04m----------2

Equating 1 and 2 we can find m

20+0.06m=31.5+0.04m

20-31.5=0.04m-0.06m

-11.5=-0.02m

m=11.5/0.02

m=575

therefore m>575
