From the original thirteen colonies, Delaware and Georgia were left out. The curving is drawn to resemble the coastline of the United States.

However, the cartoon was later used to support uniting and fighting for independence during the American Revolutionary war. It was used as a call for unity once again. The joined fight and solidarity were proclaimed to be of the utmost importance in the resistance against the British monarchy.
