Answer:

BC = 17 - x

Explanation:

Let AC be the line segment and B be some point on it,

AB + BC = AC

( 2x - 8 ) + BC = x + 9 ...............(1)

BC = x + 9 - ( 2x - 8 )
BC = 17 - x
