Can “equally as important” count as a simile? yes or no

that wouldnt be considered a simile bc a simile compares two things differently than the phrase u said. for example, in a simile you could say "She is as fast as a cheetah." in the way the phrase is used, it would say "Joe is equally as important as Sally." joe isnt being compared in a way to sally that u would use for a simile

No a simile has to compare two things saying one is the other. Equally as would be more of a transition or metaphor.
