HELP!!!

Ten hours after a runner and cyclist leave the house at the same time and head in the same direction, the cyclist is 150 miles ahead of the runner. If the cyclist's speed is seven mph more than twice the speed the speed of runner, find the speed of the runner and the cyclist.

Explanation:

Let the speed of runner be r and speed of cyclist be c

  • Time = 10 hours
  • Difference in distance = 150 m

We have following equations based on the given

  • 10c - 10r = 150
  • c = 2r + 7

Simplifying first equation

  • c - r = 15
  • c = r + 15

Comparing this with second equation

  • 2r + 7 = r + 15
  • 2r - r = 15 - 7
  • r = 8 mph

And finding the value of c

  • c = 8 + 15
  • c = 23 mph
