China is a civilization spanning some six thousand years and comprising a large fraction of humanity. There is some evidence of man's prehistoric ancestors living in China about two million years ago, and modern man has lived in the area for at least 18,000 years, possibly much longer. However, China is different from other civilizations. The culture that developed in Ancient China became the nation of China that exists today. Of course, there have been changes along the way, but the same culture has continued. The other three civilizations have faded away or been completely overtaken by new people.
