If 2x2=4 then why is 3x3=9? Not a joke pls take seriously

This is because 3 x 2 = 6
If you add 2 to that it would be
4 x 2 = 8

But if you add 3 to the first equation

It would be 3 x 3 because it’s 3 multiples of 3.
