Answer:

t ≤ 15

Explanation:

The number is t, and 1/3 of that number would be
(1)/(3) t

So:

(1)/(3) t ≤ 5

If we solve for t we get out answer.

(1)/(3) t = 5 Divide each side by
(1)/(3)

When you divide by a fraction you take it's inverse and multiply,

so
(1)/(3) becomes
(3)/(1) which is the same as 3.

Now we have t = 5*3

t = 15

So t must be less than or equal to 15.

t ≤ 15

You can check your answer by choosing a number greater than 15 and less than 15.

Let's choose 12 and 18.

(1)/(3) t ≤ 5
(1)/(3) t ≤ 5

(1)/(3) (12) ≤ 5
(1)/(3) (18) ≤ 5

4 ≤ 5 6 ≤ 5

Yes! No!

So our answer is correct.
