Answer:

price of adults tickets is $13 and price of students tickets is $6

Explanation:

Let

a = price of adults tickets sold

s = price of students tickets sold

12 adult tickets and 7 student tickets for $198.

12a + 7s = 198

The school took in $172 on the second day by selling 10 adult

tickets and 7 student

10a + 7s = 172

12a + 7s = 198 (1)

10a + 7s = 172 (2)

Subtract (2) from (1) to eliminate s

12a - 10a = 198 - 172

2a = 26

Divide both sides by 2

a = 26 / 2

= 13

a = $13

Substitute a = 13 into (2)

10a + 7s = 172

10(13) + 7s = 172

130 + 7s = 172

7s = 172 - 130

7s = 42

Divide both sides by 7

s = 42 / 7

= 6

s = $6

Therefore, price of adults tickets is $13 and price of students tickets is $6
