Answer:

When Pocahontas met Smith she was only 12 years old, and although there are reports by the English captain who says he was saved from execution by Pocahontas, the truth of the story could never be confirmed. It is known, however, that Pocahontas was really important in keeping the peace between her people and the Jamestown settlers. John Smith might have exaggerated the story so that the relations between natives and settlers continued to work in a certain degree of peace.
