Colonizers did believe in Equal Rights for all. Some did at least. The Union pushed to end slavery against the Confederacy. When the Union won the Civil War, the Confederacy did not want to give up their slaves. They believed it was their right to own slaves. The south grew a lot of cotton, rice, tobacco and more. Even though people believed in equality, they cared more about themselves and their wealth then the general welfare of minorities.
