Walter wants to make 200 candles in the shape of a cone for his new candle business. The mold shown below will be used to make the candles. Each mold will have a height of 6 inches and a diameter of 2 inches. To the nearest cubic inch, what will be the total volume of 200 candles

Finding the volume of one mold:

We are given that the molds are in the shapes of cones and have a height of 6 inches as well as a diameter of 2 inches.

The volume of a cone can be calculated using the formula

V = πr²(h/3) where r = radius and h = height

Converting the diameter to radius

The volume of a cone formula requires the radius however we are only given the diameter. However we know that the radius is equal to half of the diameter or radius = diameter / 2

So if diameter = 2 then radius = 2 / 2 = 1 so r = 1

Plugging in the given values into the formula

V = πr²(h/3)

==> plug in r = 1 and h = 6 and π = 3.14 approximately

V = (3.14)1²(6/3)

==> simplify exponent

V = 3.14(1)(6/3)

==> divide 6 by 3

V = 3.14(2)

==> multiply 3.14 by 2

V = 6.28

Finding the volume of the 200 candles.

So we have calculated that the volume of one candle is about 6.28in³ and we want to find the volume of 200 of those candles.
