The US needed to help the Germans. They needed to do so for many different reasons, but the main reason was because of how the US and Germany were pretty much worst enemies. Germany was in need, so America decided to help even though they were enemies. They also did this with Japan, and now Japan and America are pretty much the closest to allies one can get. America helped Germany not out of pity or anything like it, but instead to make sure they could try and build friendly relations so they could possibly be allies in case of another world war.
