Savannah's balance in her checking account was –$200. That is, she was $200 IN DEBT to her bank. She deposited (put into the account) two checks, each in the amount of $298.40. How much money does she have in the account now?

1.Write an equation to help you solve this problem (I encourage you to draw a number line if it is helpful)

2. Justify each term and operation in your equation. Where does each number come from? Why did you choose to add, subtract, multiply or divide?

3. Solve your equation and write your final response, with units!

Answer:

Her balance will be $396.8

Explanation:

Given that Savannah was indebted to her bank of the amount of

$200.

she deposited two checks each $298.40

that is the total amount deposited is $298.40x2= $596.8

(we multiplied by 2 because the question says the checks are two in number and that they are of the same amount)

The balance in her account upon deposit of the two checks is

$596.8- $200 = $396.8

(we subtracted $200 because she is indebted of $200)
