A. The Clear-Picture Cable Company charges different rates for ordering different levels of cable service. Clear-Picture Cable Company charges $24.95 a month for basic cable services plus $6.95 a month for each additional premium channel. If Stacey's monthly bill is $45.80, how many premium channels is she receiving? Write and solve and equation to answer the question. Show all work.


B. Dan signed a contract for 12 months of basic cable service with 2 premium channels each month. Dan budgeted $400 for this year's cable expenses. EXPLAIN whether Dan budgeted enough money to cover the yearly cost for his cable contract.

Explanation:

1a. make an equation that shows the price Stacey has to pay each month. x is how many premium channels she's paying for.

24.95 + 6.95x = 45.8

2a. subtract 24.95 from both sides.

6.95x = 20.85

3a. divide both sides by 6.95.

x = 3

1b. make an expression to show the price of Dan's contract. (keep in mind, he has to pay for 2 premium channels for 12 months, so you would have to pay for the premium channels 24 times!)

24.95(12) + 6.95(24)

2b. multiply.

299.4 + 166.8

3b. add.

$466.20

Dan would have to pay $466.20, so no, he did not budget enough money.
