What is the slope of the line that contains the points (-2,6) and (6,-3)?

m = -9/8 (slope)

This means 9 down, and 8 right.

To calculate the slope, just use this formula:


m \: = (y_(2) - y_(1))/(x_(2) - x_(1))

y2 or x2 can also be thought of as just y and x. This is because only a slope, and one point is needed to solve for another point that fits on the line.

Given point 1 : (-2,6), and point 2 : (6,-3).

We can find slope by: point 2y - point 1y/ point 2x - point 1x =

(-3-6)/(6-(-2)) = (-9)/(8) = -9/8
