Step 1: subtract 5 from both sides
5+6(W+8)=59
-5 -5
6(W+8)=54
Step 2:divide both sides by 6
6(W+8)=54
W+8=9
Step 3: isolate W by subtracting 8 form both sides
W+8=54
-8 -8
W=1
