2x - 5y = 5 --------------------------(I)

y = x + 2 -----------------------(II)

Using substitution method

Substitute y = x + 2 in equation (I)

2x - 5(x + 2) = 5

2x - 5*x + (-5)*2 = 5

2x - 5x - 10 = 5

Combine like terms

-3x - 10 = 5 {Add 10 to both sides}

-3x = 5 +10

-3x = 15 {Divide both sides by (-3)}

x = 15/(-3)

x = -5

Substitute the x = (-5) in equation (II)

y = -5 + 2

y = -3
