The French and Indian War took place in the American Colonies from 1754 to 1763. The
war got its name because the French were fighting the British, and both sides were allied
with Native American Indian tribes. French allies included the Shawnee, Lenape, Ojibwa,
Ottawa, and the Algonquin peoples, British allies included the Iroquois, Catawba, and the
Cherokee (for a time).
