Explanation:

The first side is x

The second is 1 more than twice the first = 2x + 1

The third is 2 less than 3 times the first = 3x - 2

Sum the 3 sides and equate to 47

x + 2x + 1 + 3x - 2 = 47, that is

6x - 1 = 47 ( add 1 to both sides )

6x = 48 ( divide both sides by 6 )

x = 8

Thus

side 1 = 8 m

side 2 = 2x + 1 = 2(8) + 1 = 16 + 1 = 17 m

side 3 = 3x - 2 = 3(8) - 2 = 24 - 2 = 22 m
