A spring exerts a force of 1000 pounds when stretched five feet from its equilibrium

position. How much work is needed to stretch the spring six feet from its equilibrium position?

Answer: 1,200 pounds

5 feet = 1,000 pounds

5 x 200 = 1,000

6 feet = 1,250 pounds

6 x 200 = 1,200

Answer = 1,200 pounds

1000 pounds / 5 feet = 200 pounds per foot.

200 pounds per foot x 6 feet = 1200 pounds.

The answer is 1,200 pounds.
