Tolstoy said, “There are only two plots in all of literature: a stranger comes to town and a man goes on a journey/quest.” What does he mean by this statement?

tldr: he's saying that every story is either based on a new entrance, or someone going out to find something new for themselves

either there's a stagnation and something new is brought to the person

or there's a stagnation and the person themself goes out to try and find something new
